Too Little, Too Late: Flock Admits Their Technology Needs Reforms

Flock Safety, which sells automated license plate reader systems to police departments, has announced changes after many communities dropped or paused their contracts. The adjustments include shortening the default data retention window to a week, letting agencies restrict which crime types allow outside departments to search their data, and expanded auditing with automatic lockouts for questionable queries. EFF argues these steps are largely superficial and leave intact a system that continuously tracks the movements of ordinary drivers.
