California residents can now use the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP), a single submission that asks every data broker registered with the state — currently over 600 — to erase their personal information and halt its sale or sharing. The platform went live at the start of the year, though brokers aren't required to honor requests until August 1, after which they get 45 days to respond. EFF notes it campaigned for the Delete Act that created the tool, which replaces the tedious task of contacting brokers individually.
