New Android malware encrypts files, steals data, and harasses victims

Researchers have identified an Android threat dubbed Mantax Otax that blends ransomware and surveillance functions on infected phones. Beyond locking up files, it siphons off personal information stored on the device and then bombards the victim with spam and harassing messages. The combination makes it a direct threat to the personal data of everyday mobile users.
