EFF is backing California's A.B. 2654, a bill that would prohibit companies from charging different customers different prices based on harvested personal information. The group criticized San Francisco's Board of Supervisors for pausing a vote on a resolution supporting the bill after pushback from the local Chamber of Commerce. EFF points to FTC findings that firms may show higher-priced items to shoppers profiled by traits such as being a new parent or by ZIP code.
